Description

The University UnionCloud Midwifery Society was founded in 2012 to unite midwifery students at the university and to provide additional training and support to enhance career prospects and improve education regarding women’s health to improve midwifery practice.

The society is run by student midwives for student and qualified midwives, however many of our events are relevant to other health professions. Midwifery Studies is a challenging course and peer support is essential, therefore, we encourage all cohorts studying midwifery to mix. We do this by providing study days and conferences for all to attend. Being a midwifery student requires independent study as well as academic work and carrying out placement. Study Days and conferences not run by a university society often includes travelling to different cities all over the UK and cost a high proportion of a student income. Our main purpose is to provide reasonably priced study events to our student midwives and the wider community of midwives and health professionals.

During our work we have won a number of awards including Student Activities Development Award 2013, Society Personality of the Year Award and Society of the Year 2014, and, we achieved a gold accreditation in 2016. Study events we have hosted include: Breech birth, Normal birth, An Introduction to Complementary Therapies, An Afternoon with Michel Odent, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Hypnobirthing, Fear of Birth, Maternal Mental Health, Resillence for Health Care Professioals, and, Medical Complications during pregnancy. We are also committed to fundraising for charities important to us including Oxfam birthrights, FORWARD, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Mind, Maternity Worldwide and Smalls for All.

Membership is automatic for all current midwifery students and available to purchase for previous midwifery students at the University of UnionCloud only. We welcome studetns from all universities to our events but regret that we are unable to offer memberships due to university policy.
